Team Sno: January 01 2008 Update
Another full weekend of hard core training down, and reasonable weather to boot! With all teams still at home, it was probably the last weekend we’ll all be together, as our small but potent J3 racers will kick off competition next weekend at Jack Frost. Go git ‘em Cuz’s!Saturday started out a wee bit soupy, both in the air (fog) and snow itself. That didn’t stop the 1-2’s from setting a near full length slalom course on Smoke, with a freshie reset in the afternoon. The Dunleavy dudes, the Frien boys, the Stienbach chumps and the Reed chickies were the ‘families’ in attendance. Evan would be rounding out the group with big bro Pat, but he’s still nursing his dingied-dome. Daddy-Dan notes that plunkt-Patrick is doing well and could be back on sticks by this weekend. That’s good news. Dan-the 6′ sumfin college man joined us for a few turns, checking in during his holiday break. Always good to see ex-teamers come back for a day!Amazingly the cheesy mashed potato snow firmed up nicely for Sunday morning’s training, offering a solid slippery base for a truly gnarley slalom set on Smoke. Nothing spectacular to note for the day, but Pat proved to be the most improved for the weekend, going from a dobbling lazy cruise down the Saturday morning course, to what appeared to be a blazin’ fireman on Sunday. Ex-teamer Matt Pelucacci joined us for a few runs as well. I say ‘FEW’ because somehow he managed to shatter two different sets of bindings within the course of 2 hours. Amazing. Some things never change! Actually, the shear scary-ness of Smoke spooked the bindings to death.Huge thanks to the entire J1-J2 crew for lending a hand in setting up and tearing down the courses both days. You all were a big big help, as setting on an icy Smoke is no pretty picnic. Also, I was impressed with the 1-2’s for all showing up with very sharp skis, therefore being able to negotiate the steeps with little fear of an endo. Your training was meaningful with good edges! It probably won’t be funny for awhile, at least not to them, but Kudo’s to Prez-Paul, Coach Dante and Mark Siekierka. All three somehow mustered the strength and gumption to respond to the unusual request of painting the finish shack at the bottom of Smoke late Saturday afternoon. The three hoofed it down the abyss instead of hijacking a snowcat or dropping in from a copter. On the way Dante dumped it, banging up his elbow while Paul fell smartly into the raging Sno Mt. Creek trying to extricate Dante from his unhappy situation. You’ll be pleased to know Mark made it unscathed. Waterlogged, bloody and banged up, these troops tossed on a fine coat of Slate Blue and struggled back to the lodge to recoupe for a second time in one afternoon.Other happenings:We should have a team training schedule available to you shortly. Sue is working on finalizing it as we speak and when done, will be posted on the team web site. This schedule will show what sticks to bring what days. It will also include mid-week training as well. Schedule subject to change, not responsible for lost or stolen items, prices may change w/o notice, member FDIC (sorry, practicing to be a lawyer).J3’s tear it up at Frost, 9:30am Sunday. Wish ‘em luck!!Flyin’ Ryan Symancek checked in from the great north with an impressive result. According to big Mark, Ryan placed 5th overall Saturday in a NH Cup SL Qualifier scoring 67 race points, his2nd best race ever! Nice going Ryan!Mike Mitchell is reporting in as well, but has yet to stomp a result. He’s seen top 5 runs, but can’t quite back them up. It’s early yet Mike, keep hammering away!I think that’s it. I’ll apologize for the coaches that didn’t submit their reports this week. I’m guessing they may have been preoccupied with recovering from New Year’s Festivities. I for one was up at 6:30 this morning and back in bed by 6:45am With all teams still at home, it was probably the last weekend we’ll all be together, as our small but potent J3 racers will kick off competition next weekend at Jack Frost. All students in their classes have my permission to throw lots of snow balls at them and steal their poles. Hopefully they’ll get me something this week!Lastly, here’s a little youtube video from the Bear Creek race team’s camp at Sugarbush VT the other week. The video was taken by none other than ex-olympian Doug Lewis. Skiing on the left in the red coat the great AJ Kitt with me trying to catch him a few seconds later. In the last few moments we find BC’s race director hitting a tree. Tree and director were just fine.Linky here, you may have to cut and paste in your browser to make it workHttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asXspAyMgIwThat’s all! Happy New Year Y’all!!Coach RolfQuote of the day: (for Paul) Why does someone believe you when you say there arefour trillion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?Another full weekend of hard core training down, and reasonable weather to boot!
