Goal or Mission Statement

• Our goal through this scholarship is give those with enthusiasm for winter sports, dedication, and a competitive fire, the opportunity to be a part of the Montage Mountain Ski Team.

 

Criteria for Selection

• This scholarship is reserved for those interested in participating in the Montage Mountain Ski Team

• It is meant to cover the cost of membership for a single season

• The Board of MST, Inc. is interested in an applicant who has:

  • An exemplary work ethic

  • Athletic skill

  • Racing potential

  • A love for skiing

  • A financial need

 

Process for Selection

• Initiated by the individual with the attached application

• Applicants will submit the application starting November 6, 2021 to the deadline of December 4, 2021

• The Director of the Ski and Snowboard School will meet with appointed members of the Board of MST, Inc. to consider all applications and will award the recipient by December 12. 2021

 

Biography

              Jimmy V. was a ski instructor and race coordinator for 36 years. He started off his career at Elk Mountain, but was with Montage Mountain since their opening day. He was also a level III instructor for the PSIA for a little over 40 years. He travelled all over the country to ski. He had a few serious injuries along the way, but none that could dull his love and passion for skiing. He placed in too many races to count, taking gold at most, which led to his nickname, “The Golden Boy”.

              Not only did he know how to ski in a race, he also knew how to set a race course. Jimmy set up the races every Thursday night – whether it be in rain, snow, sun, or sickness. He would set the race, wait and watch, and then ask the racers what they thought about it, so that he could improve on his next set up.  He worked tirelessly side-by-side with mountain management and operations to inform them when snowmaking and grooming was needed on the race venue to help improve the race experience for all participants!

              Jimmy always had such great enthusiasm for skiing and respect for those that did. He went on to teach almost everyone in his family how to ski, including his children, one of whom is a ski instructor now.  He wanted for everyone to be able to develop this skill and participate in this sport that was so near and dear to his heart.
